The main difference between 2-85 and 110 is the cab. 110 has a side console and a quieter cab. A 120 used the cummins of coarse, but it also had the heavier rear end.

Brad Maibach would argue with you on that one. He says they're the same. I always thought so too.

I can't tell you about what all the difference in the internals on the rear ends, but it's like parking your 105 next to your 135 and stand behind them and look. Are they the same?

Oops, thought you were commenting to me, my bad. However, I have heard that the first 85s were same as 105s. Then they cheapened the rear ends on the 85s. Guess they even sent a service bulletin out on what to fix to make like a 105. Don't ask me what years this effected. Just sharing what I know, which aint much! lol

That's what I'd always heard, but J and BM say no,they weren't updated until the 2-110s. As far as the 120s though, those were different. They had the same rear end as a 2-135 if I'm not mistaken. I believe the 100,120,140 and 160 all did.

No. Whole different animal. Not to say you can't put a Cummins in it,you just can't pass it off as a 120.

They are not! All 3 of those tractors have different rear ends! The 120 is similar to your 135. The 2-85 and 2-105 are similar and are similar to the late lLiver 1750-1850 tractors, but the 2-105 has the internal parts similar to a 1950T rear where there is a bearing for extra ring gear support+ the supports for the bull pinion housings which a 2-85 does not have. Also who ever asked the 2-110 has a dot four Perkins engine while only the later 2-85 & 105 tractors used the dot 4 engine.

I give up this subject. I know the 120 is the similar to a 2-135. Every time this comes up,the story changes. First the 2-85 and 2-105 are the same as an 1855 and weren't updated until the 2-110s,then the 2-85 was an 1855 and the 2-105 was 1955.

I'll just stay out of it until somebody comes up with a real answer, but I thought Brad had already done that. Skrew it.

Ya,and I'd heard it was the other way around, that at some point in production they had beefed up the rear end in the 2-105,more spiders gears, more rivets, then the story changes over and over. I guess the OP got an answer anyway because it appears it was the 120 he was really wanting to know about.

just by looking at 2-85 and 2-105 rear end one could tell the difference right away, as the 105 has longer axle housings, dont know about inside, cant see that, i always assumed it was heavier

My neighbor has a 2-85 and a 2-105 and the rear ends sure look identical to me. The tractors look identical. One has a cab and other does not but that's about all I can see.

seems like when white took over nothing new ever came out of them , they just kept mixing & matching the same old parts , ok they did beef them up after they found out it wouldnt hold up to bigger horsepower but same design , so with that said anything would be possible , didnt change much for what 20 years , adding a plastic grill & changing the color doesnt count. , best thing they did was switched to cummins engines & got rid of that P.O.S. perkins, just my thoughts on White tractors

Ya,they're 1855s. What's on the inside and when they put it there seems to be the contentious issue.

The 2-135 and 2-155 were the first new White design instead of using Olivers or Molines. The 2-150 was a Moline G1355. They carried that 2-135 trans and rear end over in to the Workhorse tractors.

Trouble is,the White truck division was broke and they milked the ag line as a cash cow and didn't put much new in to production.
