I purchased an Oliver 1800 B series gas tractor a few years ago that was in poor repair. The tractor S/N is 126275 844. The cylinder block P/N is 155720-A. The no. on the front flange is stamped 31420, but I am told by several people that Oliver did not trace engine S/N so I am not sure this no. will help.
The problem is that I cannot find a tach drive unit that will engage the distributor drive gear. The distributor that came on the tractor is Delco Remy P/N 112563 4000. There was no tach drive unit on the tractor. The tach drive unit that I purchased used has a spiral driven gear that is 0.600 inch in diameter and has 13 teeth. The tach drive housing P/N is 100580 (Might be a housing casting no.). The tach drive unit seems to work correctly when I turn the driven gear.
I then purchased an aftermarket parts manual (Jensales), but this did not help me solve the problem. The parts manual lists Delco-Remy distributor P/N 1112632 as being the correct distributor for tractor S/N 126275. I purchase this distributor sight unseen and when I received the distributor it had only one gear on the end of the distributor and not the two gears as on Delco Remy P/N 112563 4000.
I have come to the conclusion that the engine not the correct engine for an 1800 B series tractor.
Can anyone advise me how to determine the correct model engine in this tractor.
