Oliver OC 46

Forum,
Looking at an Oliver OC 46. Party says it has a 4 cylinder gas engine. Question is did the OC46 come with a 4 cylinder gas engine or were all 3 cylinder Hercules engines. Any and all thoughts welcome.

Early OC-46 tractors had the IXB L-head gas engine. More questions? It is probably easier to get parts for than the 3 cylinder and there are changes in the 3 cylinder engines as well.

J,
What year would it place this OC46 if it is 4 cylinders? Party just had the clutch replaced and carb revived.Any other details are welcome.

It came with a Hercules 4 cylinder gas engine. A few rare ones came with a four-cylinder Continental diesel. The later OC4 series is the one that came with
three-cylinder Hercules gas and diesel engines.

I had a chance to buy an OC 4 with an Anderson blade a few years ago with a 4 cylinder diesel. The guy had broken it down in to it's basic components and didn't want to put the money in to it that it would have taken to make it right. The tracks were so bad that I decided against it too.

The 4 cylinder gas would be from 1957 or early 58. Any 4 cylinder diesel is most likely a one off backyard special.

Yes, I think I have some old photos somewhere. I'll have to dig around. I owned one way before digital cameras existed. I also rebuilt the engine in one for somebody else 30 years ago and had a heck of a time finding parts. There is(or was) one in Smiley's tractor parts yard in central. Continental ZD-129 as I recall. Considering I've seen three, I do not believe they were not factory built. Those engines are pretty scarce, just as the 3 cylinder Hercules diesels are that were used in OC4s.
