im restoring an 1855 , have ran tractor very little since bought , any way decided to check gear oil today since its torn down for
painting , repair & restore , anyhow the gear oil seems way to thin ,dirty also. i know if the pump seal leaks it will put hyd. oil
into the gear box. since tractor cant be run at this point is there any way to know if that seal leaks , didnt seem to use much if
any hyd oil when it was used 2- years ago but i will say it leaked oil out axle seals when parked on a slope sideways , have removed
seals & they are packed with dirt ,so they'll get replaced. do you guys think this pump is my problem ? how hard is it to replace
that pump seal if i take pump off ? cant even say thats the problem , or if it was replaced at one time & never had oil change
since? or should i put a seal in there anyway at this point? is there any other way hyd. oil can get into gear box? ive been a
mechanic for 25 years so im not afraid to tear into any part of this tractor , but dont want to fix something thats no bad either.
Any ideas from the Oliver guys or advice?
