Larry - Looks really good with a nice gloss. Should be a show stopper when complete. I am doing a 990 w/3-71, but not that far along. Got everything primed. Any how, yours looks good.

We primed it with Matrix epoxy primer. The green is Pittsburgh Omni auto paint with a hardener that is supposed to make it shine more.

Looks great. What did you use/ how did you clean it before painting? I have one that I would like to make shine like that.

Larry - 990 looks sharp. Mine, also has the Hyd mounted on the right side as yours shows. A lot of so called experts told me that was incorrect. My operators manual shows it on the left, but I decided it is going to stay on the right. Thanks for the picture.

Again, nice work! Out of curiosity, are the grade 8 bolts going to stay gold colored or will they get covered in green? I kinda like the grade 8 bolts I used on the trim of my 1950, unpainted.

Looks great ! We have painted 4 or 5 of our tractors after overhauling and fixing what was broke but not a full restoration. We were pretty particular but nothing on that level ! Can't wait to see it done. They were one tough looking animal !

The ones you see on the back hitch and 3 point assembly will stay gold. I like that look. Being that I have had every bolt out of this tractor, depending where it's at I will leave the grade 8 unpainted if I like the look.

Every piece except for the trans. and hyd. housing were sand blasted down to bare metal. They were wire brushed down to bare metal. I don't like to blast those 2 things.

On my 990 I left the starter and gen. black because I like that look on that tractor. On the 2150 I took the starter and the alt. apart and sand blasted The housings, then took everything still apart to the starter shop and had them rebuilt. P.S. I know the man who has the shop pretty good. Told him to rebuild them but leave them unpainted after he reassembled them. I am going to paint them green on this tractor. I think you see a lot of black because that is the color the starter shops paint them after a rebuild.

This is a true hydralectric unit that I believe was an option for the big 3 digit tractors. It will only mount on the right side. I think it looks so much better that the assortment of different tanks that mount on the left side that all look like a p.o.s. after thought to me. This unit still works like it should with a good hydralctric cylinder.

Thanks for the reply. When the weather warms up, I want to start on this tractor. We bought it (1650) new and a local rotating festival is featuring farm equipment this fall.

(quoted from post at 19:27:37 01/27/17) I have a silly question. Why do people paint the electrical components black? They were green when the tractor was new.
like the black starter. It gives some contrast and really makes the green pop out. Goes for the gold bolts too. Then again...I like when everything is green too!

Those units were introduced after a certain serial number. I would need to look it up but I think it is the 80,000 range.

Larry, just sent you a picture of my 1950 where I used grade 8 bolts on the front end and all the tin etc. The pic was on my phone and I wasn't quite sure how to get it transferred. Darn new phone....
