saved another piece of Oliver history

Here's a couple of pictures of the Oliver 566 plow with a true on land hitch that I found in Missouri. First one I have ever seen of the 560 series plows.

Larry;

   Good find, not too many of those around.   Do you plan to use it as a show piece or in the field?
   Is it now set as a 14" width of cut or 16"?   Most of the people that bought this plow did so because they did not want to take the duals off of their tractor so they could stay up on the land.   Now you need to stay a foot away from the furrow wall and if the tractor has spacers between the wheels you are so far out of the line of draft to the left that the plow pulls sideways toward the land.   This model pulls 1 to 1 1/2 bottom harder than a semi-mount to begin with because the first bottom is a lot further back as compared to a semi-mount Oliver, then being out of the line of draft it creates a ton of landside pressure.   Being a company rep. I have taken a lot of grief from purchasers of this model.   The bigger the plow (width of cut) the better it worked because you could get to the line of draft.

I think if these plows were demonstrated with the big MFWD Olivers they would have worked great. I'm going to pull it with the 2150 MFWD that I'm restoring. It is set on 16's, which I'm going to leave it on. I'm going to fix it enough to try and if it works ok I will restore it to show piece condition, but will still use it ounce in a while. Towards the end of plowing in my area after John Deere came out with a true MFWD like the Olivers had on the 4 digit years ahead of them everyone went to INT. or Deere plows with the on land hitch's and pulled them with the JD 4850,s with MFWD. Ounce again I think Oliver was way ahead of the rest, just at the wrong time.

I couldn't tell you what models they were,but a guy out east of town had two 8 bottom Oliver on lands. He pulled them with a Case 1470 and a Case 2470.
