3 point hitch attaching pin hole wallowed out.

I posted this on the Repair forum also, and thought I would see if anyone here has had a similar problem.

I just bought an Oliver Super 55, and the left side 3 point lift arm attaching pin hole is pretty wallowed out. It had been heli-coiled, but it stripped out again. Even with the heli-coil in the hole the pin would just slide in and out of the hole freely.

I pulled the heli-coil out and there is very little evidence of threads left in the hole. Has anyone ever tried drilling and bushing one of these? Is there an oversized pin that will fit.

Here is the pin just inserted in the hole.

Any ideas?

Thanks

not being there to see it I can't say if this will work but look at MSC and put in search box 'keylocking thread repair inserts' example: a 3/4-16 insert requires an 1-1/8-12 tapped hole for standard duty and 1-1/4-12 for heavy duty insert. I would bet other industrial suppliers may also have similar products leroy

Food for thought:

Massey Ferguson, Massey Harris, Harry Ferguson, etc, etc, have the same looking pin.

The AXEL housing is drilled, then reamed to allow a 3 point hitch pin to have a NUT attached to the pin inside the axel housing:

It is interesting that you mention that. It does seem like the pin would protrude through the axle housing into the differential housing/transmission.

I need to get a manual for this thing.

On an Oliver it does not have a nut in the transmission. Are you sure you have the right pin and I have not looked at once the mid 70's.

If you are able to use the key or pinstyle locking inserts use them. There are far better than a heli-
coil. I use them all the time on the John Deere side rail bolts and they have worked great for me. I am
not very impressed with heli-coils at all.
