Serial numbers

I have block serial number that I can not seem to find any history of were this motor began its life at and in what tractor. I called the Oliver museum and they told me you can not track a tractor by block serial number only?

from what I know about build cards for supers to 55 series Oliver's is that Engine Serial Numbers were written by hand on the back of the IBM Punch Card. So even if they had a cards sorter it can not because it had written. I would require a person to spend time had indexing each card searching for the engine number. In the instance of a 310 it was used in multiple models, the 310 in the 1950-T ran for over 2000 tractors.
