When did Oliver start having the PFA, a friend just bought an 1800B, gasser with PFA. That leads me to believe 1962-63. I've been around Olivers and White tractors all my life and learned something new yesterday.

The first Oliver printed advertisement on the PFWD was printed in 1960. The first operator information-parts book was printed in the summer of 1962. This was for the 1800 A series.

My friend has an "A" 1800 MFWD S/N 121 289 built on 5-22-62. I have a copy of the build card, it is clearly marked as an experimental tractor.   It was shipped to Rosedale, WI to a Canning Co.  After the season's use it was shipped back to Charles City Experimental for evaluation.

The first "B" series was Serial Number 124 397 built on 10-3-63.

Oliverfan: What is the form number of the literature that you stated you have with MFWD from 1960?

Was this tractor a gas or a diesel? I set on one 9diesel) in the lot at Charles City when I toured the plant in 1961 the week before labor day. They were preparing the tractor for shipping to Green Giant the next week. I also have a copy of the parts bulletin with the 1900 A series with the front wheel assist that was issued in 1962

In Jan. 1960 Oliver printed two sales pieces that were given to company personal and dealers at the time the tractors were introduced.

Form # A 984 was for the 1800 and one of the features of the new tractor was listed as front wheel assist.

Form # A 985 was for the 1900 and there was no mention of any front wheel assist.

We have a "B" 1963 vintage here, gasser, front assist here, have owned it since 1969. It has thousands upon thousands of hours on it, it is semi-retired to a yard tractor with Bush-Hog loader w/forks on it. We use it virtually daily here cause it still starts great in winter and gets around in the snow, etc. which makes it so handy. It had about 1250 hours on it when we bought it. It was our big tractor for many years, pulled 6-16 plow for more than 10 years and chopped untold hundreds of tons of feed for 150+ cattle all those years. Been really stuck with it more times than I care to remember. Just one heck of a tractor and also a great conversion piece.

The tractor that Mr. Star refers to has a small brass Green Giant tag on it. We had serial # 121284--1800A MFWD. Ours did not have the Green Giant tag. Unfortunatly we sold it in 2015. If I remember correctly, it was shipped to Illinois. The build card had 5 "99" codes on it.

I have this Cockshutt service bulletin For 1800/1900 four wheel drive. Dated July 16/62. Reprint of Oliver bulletin S1-1-116. Says "to be used until such time as more complete information can be incorporated into the Parts book and shop manual. Interesting that it has a pic of the 1900.
