Would like to know any thoughts on a White 140 tractor, may be in an auction soon to settle an estate. Is well worn, 8000 plus hours, not run for 3-4 years after owner past. Does have front assist, but best that can be said is all tires hold air, well worn tread. What would a price range be on a tractor like this, assuming it at least runs? Any major problems to look for? Thanks in advance.

A picture or two would be very helpful but based on what I saw last spring I would say 18-24K based on your general description.

They are very good tractors. Transmission is not as user friendly as a full powershift, but it's proven and reliable. Good cab, good cummins engine. There was a 120 for sale for 18k or so for a long time. It was a little rough but did have a loader.

My feeling is if the tractor looks rough, needs all new tires, and has that many hours, unless there is documentation that major work was done the last 2000 hrs, anything over 10K would make me nervous. Leaving it sit for years did not help it. Remember, it is over 25 years old. Any color tractor that age, and those hours, can have anything happen the next time you use it. Pics would help.

I've only ever seen one of those on a farm auction around here. It was a nice looking tractor. They said the air wasn't working, but who knows. Might have just needed a recharge. That one was 2 wheel drive though. It brought just under 10.

Look at it this way. You can go on tractorhouse and find a handful of 7110 Magnums with the same number of hours, OK condition with decent tires for between $20k-$25K. Some even with 4wd. Those would be about the same horsepower, but an 8.3L, proven and bullet proof 18 speed power shift, no shortage of aftermarket parts support, and plenty of tractors in the bone yards for parts. By the time you spend $5k on tires, then try and fix up a tractor that's cosmetically rough, figure in your time, then consider what a more modern tractor with a full powershift costs, I think it would be hard to justify anything over $12-15k in my opinion. $10k would probably be a decent deal.

White 140 has the smaller 5.9 Cummins, how does the 5.9 compare to the 8.3 far as service hours before needing rebuilt? I know the 8.3 would have better low speed torque.
