Turning up a 1950 with a Detriot

I have a 1950 with the Detriot motor I have done some extensive work to we put in turbo pistons 4 valve head with a port and polish still using the supercharger plumbed in a 3lm 466 through the supercharger. The injectors are the 9300 series so they are about 108 cc it runs great but we want to do more we tried bigger injectors that were 140 cc but that didn't end well it sent the no 4 piston through the block. I gusse what I am asking is there anything else I could do.

What were you doing with it when it chucked a piston? Whose parts are you running? Pulling? How many rpm?

I am running Detriot parts at 3,000 rpm and we were
at a tractor pull it weighed 13500 we were running
5th gear when he shifted into the over side is when
the piston come out he got to 180 ft it was still
running after the piston come out we drove it on the
trailer running on three cylinders

There's the odd chance there was a bad piston right out of the gate. How much boost are you running? Fuel timing?

I have a 1900 Cockshutt that I pull and have 4 different engines that I swap depending on track conditions and rules. Two are turbo'd , one has dual blowers, and the last is stock looking. The last is a 2 valve with huge custom valves, wild port job and a special grind cam. All these engines have considerable dyno time to develop max torque and never see more than 3100 rpm.

I think I can give you a clue as to why you tossed a piston. This is just a guess as more info is needed -- 'you didn't have a turbo block'. I don't want to sound like a smart ash but a 4-53T engine is nearly 90% different from a natural. The turbo block is a much stronger design than the naturals i.e. even different iron alloys. I have BOV's to keep the boost at a happy level.

I don't use the 9000 series injectors as this group was designed to produce less fuel at WOT. They are DD's early California smog control attempt. The main idea was so the truckers wouldn't produce black smoke when lane changing or passing. They do however look pretty good on the dyno. There are many other choices available, start with a N100, good spray pattern.

To build a tough 4-53 I would recommend hunting down a Silver 4-53T. Now this series is pollution regulated also, so some considerable rework is needed.

Good luck.
