1850 repower

Hi guys,
I have an 1850 gas that has always been on my bucket list to put a usable diesel motor in it. Perkins are hard to find. They get grabbed up pretty fast. What other motors are good tractor diesels that would match up to my 1850? I don't tractor pull, I farm with my tractors. I really appreciate any advice.

google Cummins Repower. Or call Steve Mallicoat at 1-319-366-7537. Some companies have kits for specific tractors.

I have thought about a 310 diesel. I have a one in my 1755 that has been rebuilt and updated. I am a little nervous to have a second 310. I am in MN

Are you looking for a lot of power,or just a useable haying and chore tractor? I think the mounts and length would be the same on a 283 wouldn't they?

A Perkins would be a nightmare to try to put in there. You don't have the right tub on a gas for it,or any of the parts you need to put one from a combine in it.

I was thinking about buying a tub, bell housing, radiator as time goes by, but getting the Perkins is the hard part. The tractor only has 3000 hours on it.

I have an 1850 gas also but going to find a 310 to drop in it, not a top priority. If I wanted one with the Perkins I would just go buy one and save the hassle of changing tubs.

Friend, who posts on here sometimes as "crooked rows" put a 329 out of a Deere combine in his 1750 which should be the same tub as an 1850 gas. As I recall it fit in pretty well. If he sees this post he may chime in.

What do you use the tractor for? Do you need a gas tractor for your farming operation for light work, chores, etc? A 283 takes a lot less gas and is 80 horsepower! If your still thinking Perkins, I would think a Dot 4 engine or at least a dot 1 not an 1850 engine!

Those engines should be available out of combines anywhere they part out combines. They were in a lot of Masseys especially.

Are you anywhere near Michigan? I know where there's a White 2-105 in a metal recycling yard. I got the front axle out of it three weeks ago for a little bit of nothing. The engine appeared to have an injector out and water in the cylinder,so I assume that part was junk, but if you could get the tub,Over/Under and engine, you'd have all the parts you'd need to do a transplant from a combine, plus having an Over/under. I think that rounded part where the weights hang, unbolts so the tubs are the same aren't they?

That was close to 15 years ago so some of the details are a little fuzzy....but i know at that time a guy sold a bell housing adapter and the flywheel had to be machined....the rest was mostly little modifications

It might be better to sell the 1850 gas for a good dollar. Probably very few of them made, then get a diesel. Going the other way, you loose a good collector tractor and its residual value.

I have a good Perkins out of a 750 MF--I would be willing to trade your Waukesha in--
