Hey guys: how can I tell the difference in engines, for example, in an early 1800 with 283 to a late 1800/1850 with the 310? Is there any external differences or was it just the stroke inside? I could be interested in a late 1800 or 1850 gas running for cheap, located in ohio

Simple the early 1800 Diesel has 2 spin on oil filters. The 310 1800 diesel has a canaster type oil filter. All 1800 diesel have Lanova combustion chambers.

You need to remember that in some cases a 283 and a 310 used the same block. I had about 20 years of information on Oliver blocks on my computer and then my grandkids used the computer and I got a major virus and then to get rid of the virus the files had to be deleted so that information is gone.

There are several software packages available that can retrieve the lost data if you still have the hard drive. Even if you have written over some of it. This happened to me with all my Detroit Diesel data and $39 dollars got it all back. Years ago when Penske owned DD I managed to acquire all the 2 stroke info they had on hand. Very valuable info and is no longer available. For a couple hundred you can send the drive to CO and they will do the same retrieval but with more science involved. It just depends on how valuable the data is to you. Now for $1 a month I back everything to a cloud drive.

Just say'n. I'd love to have some of that info you lost.
