I have this backhoe for some time now I rebuilt almost everything on it and the motor always seems to run hard and I'm thinking it is the injection pump it starts and runs great but it has white smoke almost always. I put all new injectors in when I rebuilt the motor any help would be appreciated I don't want to damage anything it would be hard to replace it

My 4-78 forklift has a light exhaust haze, runs well, but starts hard cold. Service manual calls for 350 PSI compression, mine checked even but low at 290-300. Pulled the head, found all valves too low in the head so had all the seats replaced to get them back to where they should be after talking to J. Schwiebert. Just got the head back, but not on yet..

Yes It dose come up to temp I was hoping you would see this post the diesel shop said that the injection pump was getting weak but it would cost $800 to fix I'm just making sure I didn't miss anything. My dad told me it might be that the hydraulic pump is hooked to the front of the motor that until it warms up that will slow the motor down just cause the hydraulic oil is cold

I should have read your post a little better j I had the cylinder head redone new valves the works the head was never redone before so I had it shaved down some so it was level

Also have you run the tractor with the exhaust manifold off to see if your smoke is from all 6 cylinders or just one or 2?

Crack open one injector line at a time while running, and observe whether or not smoke goes away. This will indicate if it is one cylinder or all, and which cylinder might be the problem. I have a sneaky suspicion it is either low compression or an injector seeping...
