1850 Plow Questions

I'm wondering what rollover/2-way plows would have been made to use with an 1850? My first choice of brand would be Oliver, if something was made to match, otherwise what other brands/sizes of rollovers would work well with an 1850?

I'm not sure what my 1850 has for draft control, I've only pulled a trailer plow with it so haven't really examined the hydraulic unit closely. I'll have to match up what's on it with my operator's manual...I know that it has some wiring and at least one solenoid in the hydraulic unit.

Thanks for the help.

The draft control is great on them. I had a 4040 Deere,a lot newer than the 1850,but I still plowed with the 1850. The draft control was better on it.

Thanks for the reply. What's the theory of operation behind draft control on an 1850? Do you need a solenoid controlled cylinder for the plow? Just curious on how it works.

1850 uses lower link sensing, draft control will work with fully mounted AND semi mounted. You'll probably only be able to use a 4 bottom roll over due to wheel spacing limitations.

You want a 6341 or a 6342 roll over plow. A 4 bottom will use the full system hydraulic pressure to lift it in some conditions! We sold several of them. If your 1850 has a CAT 111 hitch so much the better.

Yep,the pins that hold the lower three point arms on have different holes that you can put them in to change draft sensitivity. Look down there, you'll see a 3/8ths bolt that holds a little flat tab. Take that out, pull the pin and you can move it up or down in the sensing bracket. There's one on each side.

We used to plow all of our potato fields first with a JD rollover and then a White/Oliver 6342 4 bottom plow. The JD used a hydraulic type motor that would allow it to turn just about a full 1/2 turn to flip the plow. Problem was the hydraulic unit would not hold up to some of the hard end turns (turning around while flipping the plow) that I would do. We pulled that plow with a Ford 6000 with lots of extra weight on the front. My dad had a turbo charger put on so of course I could go faster. When we got the White plow we used a Ford 8600, simply because my dad liked the lever draft control. It was about that time that we were also purchasing Olivers and it took a bit of figuring out, but the Oliver draft control seemed to work better. It lifted higher (the Ford had to be moved to no-draft to get a higher lift) and it plowed better. Last time we used it, I added a 5th bottom as a bolt on and used the Oliver 2255. Real mean machine going fast and it had the hydraulics to life and flip. Got it so that I timed my flips as the front wheel went into the furrow to give it just a bit more clearance with the 5h bottom. Still have the plow and the 2255 but don't do much plowing anymore.

The 1650/1850 Olivers had a lower link draft control system that worked as well or better than anything available at the time. It was adjustable as Randy explained, also.
