550 hydraulic

I just bought a 550 and want to change hydraulic fluid. Looking at the manual, in the attach photo it shows the drain to be item 8 which on my tractor looks like one of the remote hydraulic lines is plumbed into. Is it actually the drain? I can't imagine how you can get 9 quarts of oil in that small of a space with the drain that high. Also it looks like the book shows 30 weight oil for the hydraulic system. Is that what is typically used today?

I just use Universal Trans/Hyd fluid in mine. It is not so much of a "drain" but more of a port that the fluid is pumped out of. You have to start the tractor and it pumps it out. The bottom fitting with the yellow paint is the pressurized port, the top fitting is the return line. I have a set of remote hyd lines on mine. I just plug in an empty fitting and pull the lever on my control valve to pump the oil out. Shut tractor off when empty so you don't continue to run the internal hyd pump without oil. Good Luck!
