I recently purchased an Oliver Super 88 Wide front gas. Tractor appears to be all original, never been painted, all original gauges etc. The gentleman I bought it from owned it for close to 20 years.Probably hasn't had fifty hours put on it in the last 10 years. I have 3 Cockshutts and a bunch of Fords but this is my first Oliver. Now to my question. The transmission shifts perfect in all the gears on the low and the high side of the transmission but, if you are in the high side it is almost impossible to get it to shift back to the low side. Once in the low side it is no problem to get it back to the high side. I have had the shifter out and the shifting rail cover off the front of the transmission and don't see anything obvious. Any suggestions before complete disassembly? Thanks for anyones help.

Both my 77 and S88 tend to be the same way and I think it is just all in getting the feel for them. Always been easier to get them in the high side then it is to get them back in the low side

My super 88 is the same. I was told on this forum that the detent holes are wollered out and need to be drilled to the next ball size. I have not tore it down yet as I don't use the tractor. If you do a search you may find some info or maybe someone will chime in.

Thanks for the reply. I suspected the problem to be in the detent block, but have not
removed it yet. I was hoping that John S. or some of the Oliver Gurus would chime in before
I get into this thing too deep.

here's a link to my post. Hope it helps.
