why did most Olivers have straight pipes instead of mufflers. Dad had and Row Crop 88 straight pipe. When I was young it didn't matter. As I got older way toooo much noise. Pembroke

Most Olivers did not have straight pipes. The fleetlines, however had the muffler under the hood with just the pipe sticking out

They were so much quieter than competing 4-bangers like Farmall and Massey and the appearance of the under-hood muffler made it seem restrictive. gm
