oliver 1950 series steering column

can any one tell me how to get telescope shaft apart? I have the steering wheel off and the clamp off of the bottom but that is far as I can get the steering wheel want turn this tractor has set out side for many years with no cover over it. thanks earnie

The way that works, the shaft is cut on an angle inside the outer tube, like the gooseneck on bicycle handlebars. You'll have to pour some knockerloose oil down the inside of it,then tap that rod in to loosen that bottom tapered piece.
That clamp at the bottom of the outer tube only has to come off if you want to take the shaft off the steering hydromotor.

I have the top dust guard off and the bottom clamp off but I can not get the thin tube to slide up enough to get the nut loose that holds the telescope to the top of the steering box.

There is a ball in there that locks it in a groove. You need to turn the clamp so the little hole lines up with the ball. Catch it with a rag or a magnet so you don't loose it. Did you get my e-mail? J.

For what he's trying to do,he's better off to just tighten the clamp and leave it on the tractor though. It'll give him a place to sit down while he's working on it. lol

Wait,,,,after reading this post,,,which type of telescoping shaft do you have??? Push Button or Turn tight?
