70 throttle

Can someone help explain how to properly set the throttle and governor linkage? The rod from the carb to the governor is my big issue, it seems I have eiter idle or wide open throttle. No in-between. How much slack should be with the spring on said linkage? Thanks.

Is this a 5 gear engine or a 3 gear engine? How much play is there in the linkage pins? Have you had the governor housing off to check condition of the thrust bearing and the pins the weights pivot on? More questions? J.

It's a 3gear, new bearing in gov when engine was rebuilt couple years ago. Linkage not sloppy. The spring is extremely tight pulling against the gov. It also has the throttle lever on the steering column. Thanks

I believe you don't have enough travel in governor mechanism due to wear probably on the weights.

If the governor arm comes back and hits the cover you have a lot of wear.

I cut (I think) a 0.075 thick shim for between the spool and the forks on the arm and it works. It allows the weights to push the arm far enough to bring the carb back to high idle. Yours could be different and the linkage needs readjustment.

I've put another motor together and I am sure the governor will work. When I pull the governor arm back it does NOT hit the cover.
