1550 RC rear axle - to felt or not to felt

Guys, thanks for the tip on the speedi-sleeve, that worked perfectly. Next question on the rear axle, to felt or not to felt. Parts book shows it, so I bought new ones. But they are so thick I can't see any possible way the felt will fit in the retainer along with the lip-type seal. Parts book also shows a zerk, I can see where the casting has a boss for one but it's not drilled. Is the felt an earlier design? I've got myself 99% convinced no felt, but would like to know what you guys think. -C

Before installing a speedy sleeve you need to fill the groove with epoxy and sand it down if there is one. This will prevent the seal from pushing through the sleeve and cutting the seal over time. I don't remember a felt in mine just a lip type seal.
