I just drained the oil from the traNY gear box and rear diff. I can't tell what the oil is it seems to thin to be a gear oIL. Does anyone know what they take? They were both the same oil, i dont know if the previl use owner every changel it or if its the right oIL to begin with. I ordered all the manuals for this tractor I just haven't received them yet.

Thank you!!
Lewis

Operator's manual says, "TRANSMISSION AND FINAL DRIVE... SAE 80 multi-purpose gear lubricant year around. SAE 90... if temperatures normally remain above +32F. Service manual lists the capacity at 40 quarts.

The 1550 originally called for 8 gallons but a later service bulletin raised it to 10 by adding a 2 inch nipple, elbow, 1 inch nipple and cap. I added it to mine but now have a slight leak at the axle seal. Use 80W-90.

I'll be darned. Mine has that. I figured it was something somebody did on their own for some strange reason.

Thanks everyone for the info!! I just filled her up with 10gal of some chevron 80W90! I am just going to switch out the 6 volt batteries with one 12v.

What tires do you guys run on the rear of your 1550 tractor?

Randy and everyone else. That transmission case is the same basic casting as on the 1650. Since the 1550 is a spur gear transmission no oil pump is used and it is all splash lubrication for the transmission. They found out because of that extra oil was necessary to do the job.

Mine's a row-crop and has 16.9-38s but originally came with 15.5s. It sits real high. Once I got used to it I like it but it's a high reach to the step. It's also a high-speed so 20+ mph. If yours has smaller wheels I'd say go with 16.9s.
