1750 diesel water in oil.

A friend bought a 1750. The guy said he did some head work and now has oil in the water. He said it dropped a sleeve. It seems I read somewhere about people using the wrong head gasket but can't find it. I would appreciate any info. We will probably drop the pan soon and go from there.

All right, The first thing we need to know is the serial number of the tractor. Why did he do the head work and did the old head gasket fail? Why did it drop a sleeve and which one? If I had to guess it was either #2 or#5. That tractor is old enough the seals on the sleeves may all being starting to fail because of poor care of the cooling system. Those 1750 tractors were introduced 50 years ago!

I will try to get the serial number. Don't know if I can get any more info as I don't know the seller. Probably will pull pan and pressure test it .

I had to rebuild my 1755 this year due to coolant in the oil- the #6 sleeve cavitated, taking out the o-ring. Coolant is rough on bearings, so you'll want to check them while you have the pan off
J. Schweibert was a big help to me, and Korves Oliver is a great source for parts - I also got some parts help from Greg Oliver

I'm still working on the serial number. Story is it had coolant in the oil so they had the head resurfaced but it still leaks. Thought I heard something about a head gasket mix up but can't find it?

if you can believe him redo the gasket. People don't just do some head work, they do
it mostly because of water in the oil so it doesn't now have water in the oil, it
still has water in the oil. If the guy did the gasket right...

Who knows what the guy before him did.

was there more than one head gasket possibility for the 1750?

That is kind of a loaded question. There were some 1750 tractors built with salvaged 1950T blocks that do take a different head gasket. Also what size head bolts does the engine have? Torque values are different which also affects the sealing of the head gasket. I think someone put a gasket on it, did not check anything else and called it fixed and never checked for the cause of the gasket failure. My 2 cents worth. J.

thank you j. I dont have the tractor near me but now I have something to look for when I do go to look at it. All I am going by is what I have been told. I will probably start be pulling the pan and putting a pressure check on it. Then pulling the head. All I was trying to find out is if it did have a warped head that was repaired and they put it together with the wrong head gasket. Now I have a few things to go by. When I tear it down I probably will have more questions. Thank you thus far.
