Weld 1650 lower lift arms so ball does not slip out

The lower lift arms on my 1650 are worn where the ball sits in the lift arm. The ball on one side routinely slips out of the lift arm, even with the latch closed. I am thinking of welding some ridges on the outside edges of the lift arm to keep the ball in place. What welding rod would be good to use? Any advice would be appreciated.
