1550 2 Speed Problem

Ever since I've had the 1550 diesel when I shift to the low side of the 2 speed I have to idle it all the way down to make it go in,but once its in it pulls fine and won't slip or come out until it gets some slack and then it'll drop out.The fellow I bought it from said he put new parts in the high/low but it didn't ever work right.Any ideas what it might be?

O. K. Let us say the engine is running along @ 1500 RPM and you are doing drawbar work and you hit a touch spot. You pull the knob to go to low range. Then what happens, does it shift to low? What if you "pop the clutch"? Condition#2, what if you have a light load on the tractor (like baling hay) and you just want to slow the ground speed and you shift to low? What happens then?

Probably was torn apart for the same issue but never replaced the sprag clutch in the bottom shaft. If under fails to grab a hold like you say when you downshift, this is most likely your issue unless you have worn shafts.

If I shift at 1500 RPM to low it'll just go to neutral, but if I throttle back to 800 RPM or so it'll kick in and stay in until it gets slack or starts like downhill then it kicks back to neutral. Can put it back into high anytime and it works fine in high.I rarely use the low range in either of the 1550s so its not a big deal just wondered what would cause it.
