1550 brakes

I seem to have quite a bit of pedal on both wheels but no brakes. Can someone tell me what might be causing this & what I might expect to find if I go into them?
thanks in advance..

Mike I went for a ride & pushed the brakes, but nothing happened just kept rolling no matter how hard I pushed. I got at least half a pedal, might be froze up. Will take them apart.
And when it rains it pours. Then the carb started sputtering. I stopped it & gas was pouring out of the carb. Seems like the needle stuck.. Wonder what's next.. lol.

Thanks. I have a manual of some kind, but no pictures or reference to brakes, so I don't know what's in there.

The brakes can get glazed over and won't create any friction on the surface and also they disk may be rusted to the splines in the shaft,Taking the cover off and looking is the only real way to tell for sure.

Just take the cover off. The first disc should slide right off the splined shaft. To take the actuator out, take the double nuts off there the bolt goes through the linkage then tip it out. The second disc will slide out then. The seal will be behind the second disc.

Took the cover off, (only the one on the left side from the seat) & some oil came out. everything was pretty wet. The first disc came off easy, didn't take anything else off, looks like I may need Pinion shaft seals.. What do I need to do to replace them?? Also I am in Canada, does any one have a link to purchase discs & seals?? A couple places won't ship to Canada & the ones that do have terribly high shipping charges.
It has a front end loader on it, & makes it a bit harder to work on the brakes.. If I didn't need a loader, I think I would get rid of this thing..

Would you happen to have the number of the seals, I seem to have trouble finding them. Maybe Napa or some seal place could cross reference them for me..
What is the procedure for replacing the seals?
Thanks,
John

Just screw a sheet metal screw into the seal to pry it out. When replacing the seal make sure to cover the splines with a pop bottle or something thin to slide the new seal over and not damage it. Out a little oil on the rubber of the seal and slide it on, then use a price odd wood or something soft to tap around it and drive it in place

Did you finish the brake job, if so, please post how to complete the work. Needing to do the same, left side brake is stuck at this time.

How I did my brakes (1650, same as 1550).
- seals were shot, oil was all over brakes and sludge in brake housing.
- got all new parts: (6) springs [$9 ea.], (10) balls [$3 ea.], (4) discs [$18 ea.], (2) dust cups [$29 ea.], (2) oil seals [$25 ea.]

1) Remove discs, actuator assembly. Clean/resurface actuator plate surfaces and sludge from housing. You can reuse old discs if not worn, but have to remove oil (can use acetone) and heat them to cook off residue - 170 degrees in wife's oven. Can also reuse old balls, just clean up and polish.

2) I had no luck with removing seal dust cups and seals using the 'screw trick'. Had to get them out unceremoniously with a hammer and flat screw driver (and it was 95 degrees that day :->). Dust cups come out first, then seals. If you score the journals where the seals seat into, you can use a little non-hardening sealant like Permatex.

3) Clean up the bull pinion splines before installing the seals. Be careful not to nick the seal lip. Note the position of the seals when removing/installing.
