white 2-135 alternator

when I bought my 2-135 2 yrs ago it had a delco three wire alternator on it. it went out this spring so I replaced it. the new one lasted a week. replaced again. got two weeks out of that one. got another and added a ballast resistor since it did not have one. got two weeks out of that one also. went to higher amp thinking that might be it. got a month out of that one.
original has external reg. what am I missing? put on the diode wire when I put on the second to last alternator (the wire that goes to the 1 & 2 plug on the top and then to the big term on the alt.).

only thing changed on the tractor was added some LED lights. thought maybe the batteries were messing up so put two new ones in when I put on the last alternator.

What is the model of your alternator? The external regular ones were gone from production 5 years before your 2-135 was built. Post the model number and a picture.

How is the alternator wired? #1 pin on edge plug should go to switched ignition or accessory. It provides an initial kick start voltage to get the alternator charging when engine is first started. #2 is battery charge sensing and according to White diagrams I have it connects to battery hot source at the starter solenoid. The big charge wire goes to the battery connection at the start solenoid, but may route via switch, or amp meter if it has one.

A diode is commonly used in the wire to the #1 pin with a gas engine with distributor to prevent run on when switch is turned off. A ballast resistor is used with a 6 volt coil in a 12 volt system.
