I picked up an old Oliver 256 mower the other day and hope to get it running so I can hook it to my compact utility tractor. The pitman stick was in pieces and I can't figure out how attach the end to the new one. I am familiar with the slightly different set up on a JD mower. I know that the two "legs" in the spreader thing at top go in the slots in the two yoke pieces, but while working should the lever thing at the top be 90 degrees to the right or left?
After looking at this photo my guess is the two yokes are upside down, the concave part of the curve should be down to provide more clearance.
