Know where there's a cheap 550. Wondering if the engine will work in my 66 or what engines will? Its a gas. Thank you.

Yes it will bot up, but you may be better off money wise to buy the 550 and sell the 550 and put some of that money in the 66 which would make it a win-win situation. The 550 tractors have good resale as do the little 66 tractors.

Depends, the early 550 tractors were 144 cubic inch displacement . After the first year they were 155 cubic inch displacement. This also included different manifolds, carburetor head and valves. What is the bore size of the 66 you are working on?

Looks like the sleeves I pulled out are 3.312. I have some out of a 77 that are 3.490 that I am considering using but may go with new instead.
I called on the 550. He did not know the last time that it ran and it is split in two for a PTO clutch. He is asking $500.

Back when I was in high school,we had a Super 55 diesel with a cracked head and a 66 gas with a bad bull gear. I put that 66 engine in the 55. The biggest issue was the exhaust manifold.

3.312 is the original bore the 3.490 Probably 3-1/2 bore are out of a Super. remember the 66 & 77 are the same base engine just one is a 4 cylinder the other a 6. Buy the 550. You can triple your money!

Yea. That sounds like a good idea. Problem is I'm a hoarder:)

Too bad it's probably not in MI? Someone put
a 66 engine in my 550, it doesn't have a
tach drive...

It's in oregon but it sold in less than 24 hours. I drug my feet to long. Shouldve got in the truck this morning and got it.
