A friend bought a Allis Chalmers 5050 today at an estate auction. It has 1,400 hours,2WD,Power Steering, One pair of remotes and good rubber. I know it was made by Fiat and was wondering what the similar models were in Oliver and Cockshutt.

He gave $4,700. Around here that is not bad for a 50hp tractor. hat do they bring in other areas? Also, I am the owner of an Oliver 1250 gas. It has done alright for us though, mostly raking hay. In process of putting a 12 volt alternator on it now.

Meant to type the AC 5045 was basically the same as the Oliver 1265 by the time the 5050 came out Oliver had stopped selling Fiat built tractors but the 5050 still was very similar to the
1265.Biggest change was the 8 speed transmission from the 6 speed.AC never sold a 4 cylinder Fiat like the 1365.
Anyway the AC 5050 is a really good tractor and they usually sell real well.

I wish I could remember what that one was that I saw at a flea market in Kentucky two weeks ago. It was newer. Seems like the sign said it was an 83,but I'm not certain. That was a sharp tractor. Not a real small utility either. Two wheel drive. They wanted $7500 for that one if memory serves me right.

Thanks guys, I think it will be a good tractor for him. A lot of machine for the money, I think. It has spin out rims, maybe they all did. He has been running a drum mower and square baler with an L model Kubota. Has been through one PTO clutch.

BTW very important tell him to never run the tractor with the PTO clutch lever in the up or disengaged position use it only to engage the PTO and then put the PTO in gear.If its run up it'll
put pressure on the crankshaft which will wear out the thrust washers and then the crank will wear the block ruining it.

Educate me here: Are we not talking about a 3 cylinder Fiat here like a 1255/1265 and not a 13 55 or 65? Does this change if you have the extra 2 speeds? The 3 cylinder ones you work both the main clutch & the PTO clutch with just the clutch petal.

The 6 speeds used a two stage clutch like you're talking about, but when they went to the 8 speeds(or 12 speed if equipped with creeper gear) like the Oliver 1365,Long 460,Fiat Super 550 and the AC 5050 they changed over to a
hand clutch for the PTO,if that PTO lever is left in the Up Position (disengaged) it puts pressure on the flywheel all the time which causes the problem I referred to.I bought a 1365 4WD that I knew had motor problems but still ran, when we tore it down the crank had chewed way into the block ruining the block, sort of hard to believe it still ran.Had a good used short block so we put that back in the tractor.Another interesting thing about those tractors you can only buy unfinished sleeves so they have to be bored once they are installed in the engine. The 1465
also had a hand clutch for the PTO but the PTO disk is captured in the pressure plate and the engine clutch is against the fly wheel, interestingly the 1465 PTO clutch is made so it cannot be
left in the disengaged position should have done that on the others.
