What is the procedure to remove the fuel tank before attempting to lift the engine/over under out of the frame? My manual says remove the fuel tank but not steps to follow.
Thank you for your advice.

Yes it does have a cab otherwise it would be easy to lift the fuel tank out of the way.
I am doing a complete engine rebuild top to bottom and also will be checking into the over/under as it slips in over drive. Under and direct drive work well but probably should check both carefully while it is opened up. Will also check the throw-out bearing and clutch.
Thanks for you interest I look forward to hearing from you.

Loosen rear cab mounts remove front cab mounts unbolt cab from console then jack up front of cab. There are
2 bolts on each side at the bottom under floor mat and brackets at top on each side you may want to unbolt
gearshift boot to prevent it from tearing. I think I removed the front bolts on the rear mounts and
loosened and hinged on the back ones. Watch while removing hood it is awkward with the air cleaner bolted
to it. Then remove tank straps and slide tank back. Oh don't forget to disconnect return line to tank and
fuel sending wire also.Remove fire wall wires then unbolt 2 at bottom and one that goes into the lifting
lug on engine it has a spacer and is fine threaded remember to replace it after removing firewall. It can
be one of 3 sizes remebet to remove it after installing engine then back through firewall. While you have
it out good time to go over 3spd if you can get them out check the pressure on it at the 2 little fittings
with the engine running. Just went through this and learned it the hard way.

That pretty much covers it. I unbolted the floor plate and pulled it back. That took care of the shift boot thing. Those four bolts around the parking brake boot to get the mat out gave me some fits. I don't know if the mat could have just been pulled up and left standing along the side of the cab or not. I'd try it before I'd try to get those bolts out again.
The top plate has to come off the dash to get to the rear tank strap. Two bolts in each side, but there's a phillips head screw right in the center of the top of the dash that screws in to a little tab on that top cover too that has to come out.
Mine doesn't have a right side fuel tank,so I just stood a 4x4 on the floor jack and jacked it up.
I did the same thing on the cab mount bolts. Take the front ones out, unbolt the mounting brackets from the axle on the rears. I took out the front bolts and loosened the rears so they'd hinge too.
Putting it back together and getting that molding back in between the cab and cowl and getting both strips right is a challenge to say the least.

Chargerguy & RRLund

Thank you both for your advice.

I appreciate the step by step details and am sure others will use this info as well from time to time.

Yes, experience is an great teacher but very unforgiving. You either get it right the first time or do it again.

Two power steering lines too.It has a trunion that connects hydraulic 3 speed to tranmission9 no chain coupler.Put a new O ring back their.

Thank you CJR.

I have removed the metal cover on the upper dash to access the steering line connections and the rear strap holding the tank in place. It would also appear that the oil cooler lines for the hydraul shift need removing to permit the engine assembly to slide forward a little before raising it out of the frame as well.

I was wondering about the O-Ring mentioned in the manual and which you refer to that the hydraul slips into on the front of the transmission. My concern was getting it back together without damaging this O-Ring. From what I have read you need to lube this O-Ring well and be very careful to slip the unit back together. Probably not easy considering the weight of the whole assembly.
If my progress seems slow it is due to the fact I can only work on the repairs during my spare time around my work schedule.
Thank you for you comments I appreciate everyones info and experience.

Got the tank out but a lot involved to do it.
