Hardener for AGCO Meadow Green

I purchased some AGCO Meadow Green for my Super 55 and want to add a hardener. The tractor dealer I bought it from didn't have the hardener. However looking on line I found that the John Deere paint is also Valspar and that they have a hardener they carry. The one listed on the AGCO data sheet is REN3001 and the one the John Deere Dealer has is REN4001 and his book has that listed as a replacement. Has anyone tried that hardener? Or can I use a universal hardener like Pro Form?

I have painted a couple tractors with AGCO meadow green & REN3001 hardner from JD. They seemed to turn out pretty good. The paint didnt curdle or go into convoultions when I mixed it up. The following pic is the last one I painted.

I forgot to mention that you can get REN3001 & REN4001 through JD dealers. The REN4001 is the low VOC formula. Use the REN3001 for the AGCO meadow green.

What you said about the 4001 makes sense. Canada is sort of like California when it comes to paint. I may have to drive across the border to get it. By the way, did you use a reducer with your paint, 8-1-1.?

Yes I used reducer. I used JD paint thinner TY25650. If I remember correctly, I used the instructions for JD paint. 1 part thinner to 10 parts paint. A can of hardner is enough for 1 gallon of paint. I mixed up a quart at a time and used 1/4 bottle of hardner each time. It worked with the clover white as well. I think it turned out well, especially for the primitive painting environment.

I have the same painting set up. Good weather is a must. So the JD paint calls for 10 -1-1 mixture. The AGCO data sheet is 8-1-1. Did you use an HVLP gun? The may have to look at the data sheet again, but I didn't see a pressure recommendation. I already put on a PPG epoxy primer.

Go to a parts store that sells paint materials. Get some Hardener for Synthetic Enamel. about 1/2 price of the John Deere. Also get your paint reducer there. Probably Medium Temp.

AGCO Meadow Green looks great after it goes on. I wished it looked that good after a year outside. Fades and looses gloss.

Loosing gloss and fading, doesn't bother me too much. My main concern is to keep it rust free. I am not looking for an auto show type finish, although that being said, I don't want orange peel or runs. I just wanted it
smoothly coated and a protection against rust. I actually have a great deal already painted from when I started years ago and since it's covered in a portable garage most of the time it looks good. I didn't use any hardener or
reducer back then. I didn't have much experience painting, and still don't. I have changed to an inexpensive HVLP gun from an inexpensive siphon gun.
