Oliver 2050 hydralics

I just purchased an Oliver 2050, I have always wanted one of these, I think they are a great looking classic tractor. I have discovered a major problem in that the ?lay shaft? which carries the gear to drive the hydraulic pump spun a bearing and damaged the main frame casting by wearing the hole into an oval. This shaft with gear and bearings has been removed along with the hydraulic pump, manifold and all the related drive assembly.

I am not even sure at this time if I can repair the main frame. I can source a new pump although there is a choice of two and I have no idea which one is correct!

Questions:
Does the 2050 share the same back end main frame casting with any other models? In case I have to purchase a new main frame.
Were all 2050 tractors fitted with 3 pt hitch?
Does the 2050 share the same rear hydraulic top as any other models? As It may be cheaper to find a complete top rather than purchase the missing drive and pump.
Anyone know where I may find a 2050 been broken up for parts?

I would post photos here if I new how!

Thanks

Is your tractor a 2 or 4 wheel drive tractor? Do you have a 3 point hitch? How bad is your hole for the bearing worn?

She is two wheel drive and has 3 pt hitch, I am curious why you ask?
The two holes are very rough, I would not feel happy pushing a bearing in, given they failed here once before. As all the parts are gone I have nothing to compare to. A scrap piece of 1 1/4 shaft is loose in the rear housing but when pushed forward into the front housing she almost becomes tight. The rear hole is worn just over 1/16 inch out of round.

I am thinking of using a piece of 1 1/4 shafting, drive it in and put in a vertical pin to stop the shaft from turning I could always add some weld to the shaft at 6 o'clock to tighten her. Then take the new idler cog and bore it out and push in a needle bearing so the idler turns on the shaft instead of the smaller original shaft turning in two bearings. There is an oil feed pipe there with the end crimped up. I have no idea what this was supposed to do. I was thinking of boring the new shaft and using this oil line to feed the bearing. I should be able to start her up and check this before putting the top back on. This is of course assuming I can find the parts.

I have a re print service manual which, surprisingly is not proving very useful. I have reprint parts book and operators manual on order. The books for my Cockshut 1850 and proving more useful but obviously I can only use them as a guide.

I appreciate any advice,

I would think it would compare with a 2150, but there aren't many of those either. I was able to get used parts to repair my transmission on my 2050 but that was 20 years ago. I remember seeing a parts tractor at Meyers Salvage in Aberdeen SD years ago

Best I can do for pics, don't have anything that shows the idler out. This is a 2150 that I just put new shift forks in.

In your photo there is an oil pipe coming from the front of the gear box. My tractor has a "T" there and a second pipe that is crimped off, any ideas what that would be for? This forum will not let me post photos for some reason if you would like to e-mail me direct I could send a photo to you, I can be reached at [email protected]

Second pipe is used to pump oil to the pto shaft bearing that drives the hydraulic pump (and I think lubes the top shaft on the transmission) see item 22 and 23 in the photo from the Agco parts diagram page labeled Pressure Lube System. I believe the crimped off line you are referring to should bolt in to item 29 on the Transmission Final Drive page. This is just a guess, but I assume that when they wiped that housing out, they crimped the line so that they could still maintain lube pressure for the rest of the tractor. Splash lube was probably relied upon to keep the transmission shaft lubricated.

Thanks Mitch, your diagram is a great help. Number 22 and 23 are present and correct as is 24. The two pipes forward of the gearbox appear correct, I think they would be 27 and 30 I think 27 and 30 go to the "over under" unit? The crimped of pipe is in the gear box, I can't be 100% sure but appears it would be 34 if I am reading this correctly. What does 34 connect to? I really appreciate your help, right now I am stumbling around like a blind man, never having seen it correct in the first place.

John, the lines you are describing are for a 4wd unit. I'm assuming you picked this unit up in Tennessee and it was the 2wd with the bad hydraulics and the crank pulley driven hydraulic pump on the front? Does the tractor have a tach drive with a cable that that runs from the tach gauge down into the very front of the transmission housing? Wonder if maybe some portion of this tractor was 4wd at some point in its life prior to the "enhancements" it currently has. You can probably tell by looking at the S/N, that could start to explain some of your additional lines.

The over/under is a completely self contained unit, so none of these lines have anything to do with it.

Yes you have identified my tractor correctly, she came from Tennessee, I am starting to think she was not a good purchase! I just wanted one of these big girls to badly! Now I have my work cut out to make something of her. I see no evidence of any front wheel drive, I also have a Cockshutt 1655 and an 1850 4WD but this one is very different. Still puzzled over that oil line in the gear box.
The Tach is missing but the cable goes to the front of the engine. The speedo is there and cable runs to font of the transmission.

The serial # 213 736 657 tells me she is a late 1969. The model # is 420-22021 but that means nothing to me.

Hopefully my manuals will arrive this week and then I may learn some more.
Cheers

eh, don't beat yourself up, it'll be fine. Sorry, I mis-spoke earlier, I did mean speedo not tach. Here are a couple of pics from the front side of a 2150 transmission. The light is not good, but you should be able to make out the top line (30), which lubricates the trunion mount connecting the 3spd to the transmission. The other photos show line (34) which lubes the pinion shaft. That line should attach to the same fitting as the speedo drive. If your tractor is/was always 2wd, I don't believe it would have ever had line (27).

The 657 at the end of your serial # indicates it was a standard speed 2050/2150, (4wd regular duty was either 661 or 662, 4wd heavy duty was 665 or 666). More info than what is probably useful to you, but there you go.
