Wick rockers

We just rebuilt an engine that had sat for many many moons. We have ran it for at least half an hour. We have good oil pressure and lots of oil on the pushrod side but none on the valve side. Does it take long for the oil to wick over there or do I need wicks?
Also the front crank seal is leaking. Does it take some time to swell up or did I mess it up? Thank you in advance.
Not a pretty tractor yet but hope to get it to the steam up.

I woke up this morning and remembered that when I was setting the valves there was some hard carbon by the the tappets that I removed. Now I realize that it may have been the end of the wick? How far should the wick protrude?
Thanks again.

Back when I was in college , I had a 48 nash with

that problem , I went to a fabric store and bought

a piece of felt . Cut strips and replaced the old

ones , worked great.

(quoted from post at 14:53:18 07/23/16) I used pipe cleaners wrapped around the rocker arms and threaded through the wick holes. Eventually started flicking oil around.

I called agco this morning and found they're still available so I ordered some.
Thank you for the good suggestions. Paul
