New to me 2-70

Just brought home a really clean 2-70. Two things I noticed right away were, (1), clutch disengages all the way at the bottom of pedal travel and, (2), the engine almost dies when you throttle it back from a higher RPM; almost stops. then recovers. I assume (hope):-/ the clutch is still adjustable, but would appreciate input on both issues.
Thanks, DAN

Just did a clutch in a 2-105 Wednesday Adjusted it today after running it for a day. Take the pin out of the turnbuckle where the linkage hooks to the lever on the bell housing, drawing a blank here, turn it in I believe. If that isn't right, turn it out,but you can tell when you put the pin back in. Mine was back up near the top today and I turned it out for more free travel.

On the idle,I'll leave that to somebody else, but there should be a screw on each stop on the throttle plate on the injector pump. I think you'll have to turn the one in that stops it at the idle position. Out toward the plate.

It should idle at 750 to 800 RPM. The idle adjustment screw is the front one on the side of the pump. Turn it in to increase RPM.

I guess I wasn't clear on the idle thing. It idles ok, it just almost dies when you pull it down to idle from a higher rpm, then recovers and idles fine.

Thanks, I wish I could check the RPM but now the battery is dead and I don't have time to work on it until I get home again in a week or so.

If it idles at 800 as J.S. mentioned, but still under runs-dies on deceleration it's either the metering valve sticking, and/or the retainer flex ring is failing which causes poor governor response. If it EVER changes speed WITHOUT moving the throttle that's a good sign the pump needs repair. If run too long the risk of shearing off the retainer pins, locking the rotor against the cam ring, seizing the hydraulic head, and breaking the drive shaft will happen. Just finished a 1950T pump that had stuck plungers from setting..
