Oliver 99 gas

The Oliver 99 showed up today. Sold as a super 99, but dad thinks it's a styled 99. Serial number is 518487-C, anyone know for sure what it is? Seems to run fine, albeit with the V8 Ford transplant. Dad put propane in the tank when it show up and she fired right off, gotta love propane engines. Brother and I think that garbage cab needs to go, but sis is adamant it stays, any bets on who wins that?

It's a styled 6 cylinder 4 speed 99, there was a 302 for it at the sale who knows if it was the original. The diesels are not to hard to find but gases are rare.
We have a few of them kicking around.

By the looks of the steering wheel it's had a cab on it most of its life. You don't find them like that very often. Nice find.

Hi glad to see it at its new home being that unique it not hard to know where it came from, so any idea as to what Ford engine is in it? How does it drive I say leave the cab on it.

Haven't driven it myself yet, but dad says it drives just fine. They seem to have done a very good job on the conversion, even adding a trim piece below the grill to make up for the additional height. Guessing the conversion was done in the late 70's-early 80's? Whoever did the conversion was pretty professional about it. Doesn't seem like anything was cut or destroyed when the motor was swapped out, so putting the original engine back in would be possible. Throttle and everything else is hooked up properly. Not sure what Ford engine it is, haven't looked that closely, but I suspect it has plenty of power for the intended application.

If you plan to take that tractor to any shows, please KEEP that cab on it! I think it will double the interest in your fine tractor.

Hi Mitch thanks for the reply yep the conversion looks good not a butcher job, I'm curious as to where the 88 went hope it show up here on YT.

I'm glad to see it going to a good home..Did you get the original engine that was laying on a pallet? Are you the
ones that had the Olivers at the Adrian,MO show?

Mitch: The 6 cylinder 99 tractors start with serial number 518 300. The Super 99 models start with 519 300. The give-a-way is the 4 speed transmission and the front mounted belt pulley. The Supers are 6 speed with a rear mounted belt pulley. Did you buy the engine as well? The very early 99 gas engines have 88 diesel crankshafts. It would be interesting to see if this engine that was on the sale was one of those. Is there any more letters or numbers after the C in the serial number?

Yep, those were our tractors at Adrian. Our farm is close by so it was easy to bring a couple of the big ones over. Dad pointed your tractors out to me, nice looking. We left the pull as soon as the neighbors daughter pulled my 1365 in the exhibition pull, how did your pulls end up?

The engine is a Ford FE series, but looks to be the medium duty truck engine. Either a 361 or 391. I can tell by the exhaust manifolds on
it. The medium duty engines used a heavier casting with a different bolt pattern, like the ones on yours.

If it is a truck engine it would be the FT (Ford Truck) FE=Ford Edsel car engine, If went thur the work of that installation it would be a truck engine for one thing to have a forged crankshaft vs a cast one
