1550 steering

Everyone on this site has been very helpful in my getting the 1550 into working trim. I have another question. I was cutting hay today and when I tried to make sharp corners the steering hit the lock it would pull the engine down badly. Nearly killed it one time. When I finished I noticed some fluid on the top of the flow divider. I saw that last time I mowed, too. Baled with it in between and no leaks. This is the early, one piece flow divider. Could the relief valve be too high? I'll check the pressure tomorrow. Anything else I should look for? I'll add one thing. When I was working on the front axle I found one of the tie rod ends had been broken and welded so the distance to the first notch is too long. When I set the toe-in the steering arm is offset to the left so I get less steering to the right and more to the left. I'm going to grind a new notch but haven't got to it yet. Could that be the problem?

When I put a steering cylinder back together one time,I got the pinion gear off one notch on the rack. Is there a chance you did that?

I was the one who posted pictures of the marks when you did that. The arm travels equally in both directions. Because of the tie rods, I can turn sharper left than right so I hit the end of the piston stroke sooner. Didn't think of mowing hay when I put the longer one on the right side.
