Hydra Power, do they slip in direct?

I noticed a couple of times when parked on a slight grade in gear with the engine off, it will roll slightly. Is this normal or do I have something else to fix?

How much is slightly?? Most any tractor I have when parked on a incline, engine off and in gear will move enough to take the slack out of the gear train. Are we talking a couple of inches or a couple of feet??? Chris

There is no pressure to engage the direct clutch when the engine is off thus it will roll if you have the trans in the same gear direction it wants to roll. In other words if you want the trans to hold it when it wants to roll forward you have to put it in a reverse gear . If it wants to roll backwards put it in a low forward gear . This is because without the engine running the hydra power is in under which depends on the sprag to hold it .

Think about it guys! Pump is driven by the output gear connected to trans input. Direct clutch leaks off, tractor slowly rolls driving pump to creating enough pressure to stop tractor and cycle starts over. Seen it many times, won't move fast enough to hurt anything.

would never have given the brakes locks a thought, just expect them to be there. Guy I bought mine from on the other hand... I was able to ship mine to my place, when it was loaded the guy said I hope it doesn't move, I said I'll put the brake locks on, he said it didn't have any. He never knew it had them.

Your comment made me think, it does need to be said.

To the point, it's a manual trans, most people are not familiar with them these days I drove them for years.

If the battery will not turn the motor over you drag them with the clutch in/key on and "pop" the clutch, the motor turns over and if it's just the battery it starts. Soooo, it will move with enough force, couple that with the compression probably not what it used to be and you'll roll easy.

Which gear was it left in? In a higher gear like 5th or 6th the tractor could be rolling a little bit each time the compression leaked past the rings, one cylinder at a time. I've seen a boat slowly inch a pickup backwards down a boat ramp with the pickup engine off and the transmission in gear. The owner caught it and moved it before it got to the water.
