Oliver 1800 Type A transmission fluid

Folks: The dipstick of the Hydro unit on our Oliver 1800 reads: Use type "A" fluid only. This has probably already been hashed over many times, but what should we be using in this hydro unit. I have never heard of type A fluid before. After googling, perhaps Dexron 3 will suffice? Please advise

use the type A, it's not hard to find. You have to be careful using the newer fluids, they are not made of the same stuff.

Bought a van once, previous owner topped off the fluids, used the wrong break fluid (older stuff and oil based) caused every bit of rubber in the entire brake system to swell, tires about caught on fire.
