I took my 1953 E-5 Coop and 1956 Cockshutt 40 Deluxe tractors to the Adrian,MO tractor show on June 25th..I entered both of them in the 5500-6500 lb class at the tractor pull..Its a 1st gear weight percentage pull..

The E-5 weighed 5505 lbs (scales were light) and pulled 324% to beat 11 other tractors....Time and time again I thought it was going to spin out but those old 45 degree Goodyears kept clawing and fighting......I was one of the few that carried the front..I was sure proud of it..

My Cockshutt 40 Deluxe weighed 5510 lbs and only pulled 289%....It had the same drawbar set up and tire pressure but the 18.4 Firestones never got ahold of the track..

The old Coops and Cockshutts have an advantage over most of the other tractors. They have a very low first gear. I see you pulled percentage and our club pulls percentage in the farm stock classes only. Not many pulls in this area are percentage pulls any more.

Its a 262 out of a 1971 F Gleaner combine....It runs good for $500...However,the E-5 always beats the 40 Deluxe....I could have read a book while going down the track..Its slow but gets there..A stout M Diesel Farmall was 2nd place...

This is about the last weight percentage pull still around...Back in the 1970's-1980's I pulled at numerous weight percentage pulls but they are about a thing of the past..

They have a tape measure on the sled frame rail measuring the weight box travel forward.....The sled has been weighed at each inch of travel..Lets say you pull 120 inches and the sled weighs 15,000 lbs there.....Your tractor weighs 5,000 lbs so they divide 15,000 lbs by 5,000 lbs which is 300%..

Back in the old days we used walk on sleds and they figured each sled rider at 180 lbs or so...The sled weighed 2000 lbs,you picked up 50 riders for 9000 lbs,and the tractor on the sled weighed 5,000 lbs for a total of 16,000 lbs....If your tractor weighed 8000 lbs then you pulled 200%..
