Well, after 2 1/2 years of off-and-on tinkering I actually used the 1550 this morning and cut a few rounds of hay. I'd been pulling the MoCo with a Ford 2000. Ground speed, timing my turns and backing are altogether different so there's a bit of a learning curve. I want to bale with it so the trick is to get my driver (wife) to get on it. She's been resistant to it all along. She adapted to baling with the JD A when the old COOP got too weak so I thing she'll be OK once she tries it.

Great to hear Mike. Your driver ought to like the 1550 better than that ol' JD! She'll want an Oliver cap now. lol

What ever you do,if she's baling, make sure she knows not to pull the Hydra Power in to underdrive.

Congrats Mike. As soon as I saw the thread title I knew it was going to be your post and what it concerned. Did it really happen though if there is no picture?

PS: I predict your wife will love the Ollie better than anything she has ever operated... (FWIW: I likely going to eventually sell my 1950 JD A as the wife struggles running the hand clutch even though it has power steering. I adjust the clutch to weak which helps her some but a pain to readjust later for me for real work. I love using it but with 8 tractors now I need to thin the herd. I have suggested she go to the gym to get stronger but that suggestion has been ignored).

It happened, rank. I married a farm girl. Growing up, she never really "operated" any tractor but did know how to drive the COOPs, just not the A. Since her dad passed there was always someone baling on shares, with all the inherent problems that brings. It was really her idea to start baling ourselves. She resisted using the A but eventually caught on. We'll go back to using the E4 when I get the engine done. Even if she does like the 1550 she won't admit it to me. Not happy unless she's complaining about something.

That's why I made sure the brakes are good. I'll just tell her to leave it alone. In our fields it's either up or down, very little flat. It's just the two of us and we don't push it too hard so there's really no need slow up for any reason.

Could never understand the popularity of the 2 cylinder John Deeres. You needed to be a three armed juggler to operate one. Must be the constant putt-putt-putt and the vibration. I'm not knocking John Deeres. I own a 4020. One of the best tractors ever.
