I went to start the 88 after it has sat since last summer. It does not start and the ignition system seems hot to the points. I replaced the condensor last year with a TSC quality condensor. Is it possible that condensor has already gone weak? The cap and the plug wires are in marginal condition but yet the tractor started right up once the condensor was replaced a year ago. Maybe 3 hours on the tractor since that time.

Remove the coil wire from the center of the dist cap hold it 1/4 to 1/2" from the engine block and crank the engine with switch on if you get good spark your coil points & condenser are good and its the cap or wires or plugs

Many times when an engine sit and has not been run in months the point corrode and then well you do not have spark. Simple way to test if pull the center wire form the distributor cap and hold it about a 1/4 inch from the block and spin it over with the ignition turned on. You should see a good blue/white that jumps tha t1/4 inch gap. If you do not have that pull the cap off and turn it one and carefully open the points by hand. Be careful or you will find the spark the hard way. When you open and close the points you should both see and hear a spark. No spark then the points are not conducting power

I went out after dinner and she fired right up. I am wondering how good the fuel flow is through the carb? It would not hurt to pour something into the tank to help clean the jets. I wish I had some money to spend to spruce it up. I would love to put some Firestone radials on the back wheels.
