Waukesha 310 confusion ??

I am looking for a Waukesha 310 gas block and have found a diesel block. I have all the gas parts on hand but no block. My question is can I put my gas components in this block by removing a soft plug where the distributor normally plugs in and be good to go? Are Oliver blocks different then the VRG310 blocks I have found on the web? Is one block better then another?

I am building a 310 powered 77 and would appreciate any input. Thanks.

Do you have casting numbers? Some 283 & 310 engines use the same blocks. Also some blocks have 5/8 inch head bolts while others have 9/16 inch. Also you need a governor drive bushing for your gas engine and delete the support bushing for the diesel idler gear. I don't remember any diesel blocks having a soft plug where the distributor would go.

No casting numbers yet, the diesel block isn't nearby. Thanks for the info on the bushings & head bolts. I am guessing that the larger size bolts are for a later year? I am not familiar with this engine at all. Everything is in a big box.
