Just bought an Oliver 1555

Made a deal last fall with a fellow to buy two tractors, a White 2-70 and an older Oliver which turned out to be a 1555 diesel. It has just over 7500 hours on it The clutch adjustment is all gone and the coupling chain needs to be replaced. Other than that, it seems to be in very good condition. How hard is it to replace the clutch? I take it you have to pull the engine?

I only have about 100 acres tillable and much of it is in pasture for grazing dairy cattle. This tractor seems like it would be a really nice, handy, useful tractor for my farm. However, I'm not seeing other 1555 diesels for sale, which makes me wonder, is it too rare for me to consider using daily, or is that not something I should be concerned about? And how dependable is it and how hard is it to get parts for? Any idea on how to find re-sale value?

Fix the known problems with the 1555 and then run it for work. The 1555 diesels are not common but are not known to be troublesome. Barring individual history of the tractors you purchased you have two pretty good models to work with. I have enough tractors for what I do but I have always had an itch for a 1550 or 1555. Hopefully, I am around for many more years to see that dream come true.

Pull the PTO shaft out the back, take the chain coupler apart, unbolt the motor mounts and lift the engine and hydropower out as one unit. Unbolt the bell housing after you're got it out and that's all there is to it. You can sit those right down on the floor on the pan and just about pull that hydropower straight off.

Jerry at Ag Parts First will have all the parts you need for it. I called him Friday for some brake discs and they were here yesterday.

They're a great little tractor. You're gonna love it.

Once you use it for a few days, you will never sell it. Pop only ever sold one 1550. The farmer's sons, still have it as far as I know. If I were you, I wouldn't let that 2-70 go anywhere, either.

Before you walk out and look at your tractor and Lund's picture you need to know that the 15550 & 1555 tractors had an optional dual speed PTO and you may have that. The long shaft still needs to be removed but the procedure is a lot different. If your tractor has the dual speed unit it will look like the PTO on your 2-70. More questions? J.
