Looking for a complete 478 Hercules, and anyone with experience on the bottom end of one dosnt have to be running just complete no fuel system or turbo is ok
 
Expand your search and include the military 6 X 6 truck engines too. Those had heavier cranks with stronger, thicker webs than the White tractors had. When the neighbor's White crank broke a good used military crank bolted right in.

Depending on where you are located, I have a long block we pulled from my 2150 when we restored it. No fuel system, no turbo, but it ran up until we removed it to install a new military crate motor. Long block is currently stored in the military container the new motor came in. We're south of Kansas City, would guarantee the heads, block, crank, and rods to be in good recondition-able shape.

I'll echo what Dieseltech said, if you're patient, you should have no trouble finding a military surplus Herc out of a deuce and 1/2. I've picked up a couple of new ones in the past few years, you just have to be careful with what you buy. Just because they come in a crate, doesn't make them good!
 
I will be pulling a complete good running engine with no leaks from a 2-135 Series III soon to do a cummins repower. This one would make someone a good replacement 231/757/0064 Al
 
I also have one out of a 2-135 series III that we replaced with a military crate engine. Located in the Madison, Wisconsin area if that helps.
 
Search for a LDT 465 = Military version of the 478. 2 rebuilt on eBay right now $2500-2600
Put your exhaust/turbo/Injection pump on the 465 (22 to 1 compression) will provide more power than the original 478 (17 to 1 compression)
