Re: White 2-105 Brakes Leaking oil

I removed the brake assembly and found that the large O-Ring was broken so the reason for the leak. I replaced both large and small O-Rings using Agco parts. However I am having difficulty installing the brake piston. I oiled it before trying to reassemble it but no luck. Is there a trick or should I try pressing the piston back into place? I don't want to damage the new O-Rings or piston.
Thanks for any advice.

Make the extra effort to not use force.

What I have done is make a 'funnel' out of thin shim stock to guide the piston & o-rings into the bore.

What really helps sometimes is to use a compatible grease.

Also, If the o-rings are accessible use a blunt polished probe to push them in place.

Thank you for the wise advice.
The O-Rings are in a grove in the housing and the piston has a beveled edge to aid in entry past the O-Rings. Neither O-Ring is accessible when installing the piston. It seems to be a very snug fit so I doubt much in the way of a shim stock funnel would permit entry. However I was considering the grease idea as compared to oil.
I appreciate your comments and suggestions very much. I don't want to damage the new O-Rings they are not cheap and it would defeat the whole purpose.
I would like to be able to attach a picture to make things clearer but so far haven't figured out how to do that. Advice on that topic would be appreciated also.

Oil and grease . More then likely you will have to force them some. As long as you have done a good job of cleaning the piston and getting it smooth with emery cloth then oil and grease it well there is enough taper on the piston that it will go in with a little force and not hurt the o-ring . I have had to use my fist and sometimes the handle of a hammer to get them in . You can test for a leak by applying very little air to the brake inlet fitting but be careful or you will blow the piston back out .

Success! Greased the O-Ring and polished and greased the piston but still had to use some pressure with the press and it popped in and forced air out the inlet fitting so should be good to go. Hope the other side proves as easy.
Thanks for the advice it is always appreciated.
