1800 C Dying Problem

I've got a neighbor with a 1800 C that runs about 30-45 minutes then just dies. He says it might start and run a little bit at low idle when this happens, but mostly will not run until it cools down. It has the Marvel aluminum carb, new coil, says the points are decent.

Further, he is leaking gasoline into the crankcase. That should be a lift pump issue. I've suggested that he get an electric lift pump to replace it.

So, would whatever is wrong with the lift pump cause the dying issue as well? What else could be causing the dying issue? I've not gotten a chance to be around when it happens to him to put a test light or spark tester around on it, so I'm just trying to get some ideas from you guys as to what to check for him.

Thanks

Does it help to choke it? If so I would expect icing in the carb. If it just plain dies even with choking then the condenser or the new coil could be blame. As far as the lift pump it could be causing the gas in the crank, but then it could also get there from around the pistons also, but trying a new lift pump or putting on an electric pump first.
