Oliver 1850 steering

I have an Oliver 1850 with a hydraulic leak in the bowl around the steering column. This tractor is a restoration project and before I took it apart I did not have the problem. I put it all back together started it and with out even turning the wheel the fluid started filling up in the bowl until it would run over and down the dash. I have also noticed that my powersteering turns hard both directions and is not very responsive. I have installed all new hoses. My question is could it be the rubber o-ring under the snap ring in the bowl? If so do I need to pull the whole steering column? Or could it be something in the priority valve causing my issue? Thanks for any help.

There's a seal on the shaft on the steering hydramotor. There's a kit available from Agco that contains that seal and I think there's a o-ring in it too if memory serves me right. I put one in a few years ago. Price was around $32. You have to pull the steering wheel, the dash and then the steering column off the tractor. You can leave the hydramotor in place. The most time consuming part of the whole job is marking the wires before you pull the dash.

Thanks for the information. I was hoping I would have to pull the steering shaft out, but that sounds like it is my only option.

If you order that seal kit, order that nut that holds the steering shaft to the hydramotor shaft. You'll probably break it getting it off.
