Planted soybeans today with my 1650 gas. First time doing any real field work with it. Acted like it
wanted more fuel. Started out with idle screw at 1 turn out and main fuel screw at 2 turns out.
After a few rounds it only ran about half choked. Kept turning the main screw out, but the problem
always reappeared after a while. Am now at 4 turns out on the main fuel screw and still need
choke to run. Falls on its face without it. Any ideas???

Also, hydraulic remote is very weak. Moves very slow at about 1300-1400 rpm. Power steering
works fine and no whine sound. Help me out!

Thanks.

I'd check to see if there was anything stuck in the inlet to the sediment bowl. I've seen solder bits and other debris that has fallen into the tank plug up the inlet enough to restrict flow. Is the tank clean?

My 1600 had a similar problem a while back, was junk in the tank blocking the flow. I blew back through the line with compressed air, and that solved the problem for me. Missy have broken it up some, because a little while later I saw some debris in the sediment bowl.

Just an update.

Ran it planting the soybeans and it gave me fits. Had to plant about 10 acres while adjusting the carb and playing with the choke. Not fun. That's when I posted for help.

Besides always running a steady diet of gas treated with Seafoam, the only thing I did was switch the fuel cap with my 1850 diesel. Now I will say when I was having the trouble with the 1650 I did reach up and crack the fuel cap so it was just setting on the filler neck. Did not change anything, but you never know.

All that being said, I took it yesterday and ran it for a couple hours to plant some corn. Ran about perfectly. Ran it with the choke off and it sounded like a sewing machine. Did the Seafoam break up a piece of debris to finally work its way through the system? Did some debris in the tank move and unblock the fuel supply? Who knows, but before I left to plant that corn (at that point I didn't know how it would run) I treated a five gallon can with 20 oz of Seafoam (4X the standard rate) and sent my Dad to the fuel station. Also told him to buy a bottle of gas dry. I said if it started running poorly I would stop and put it in. It ran like a top, so I kept going and added it when I got home. We'll see what happens.

2 things, one already mentioned, both related...fuel restriction. The first mentioned is debris blocking the flow, could be tank, line or carb, could be all three. The second is something others who use these machines in their day said, vapor lock. Cold they ran great, warm they ran great, hot they about died or did and only cooling them off worked. Each time you did something it probably cooled and then the problem came back, sounds like it could be vapor lock.

They never really fixed the problem, todays lines I think could be adapted fixing the problem.
