Oliver 77 Diesel starting problem

Tried to start. Got smoke, but no fire.

John suggested that my flywheel, which has INT and TDC instead of FP is a gas flywheel, and only one degree different from diesel.

We've tried re-timing the injection pump to points before (advance) of INT around to after TDC. We get the best smoke nearer to TDC.

It looks like this motor was at some time a replacement - No serial number on the engine block - 12250 on the tractor

Not to be rude but you know there is 2 spots you need to have the timing lined up on the pump, if the one inside the window is a turn out it will smoke and not run

The front hub mark is beginning of injection, and turns crankshaft speed. The marked gear tooth under the side cover is to determine whether pump is ready to fire # one or # six cylinder. If you see it and front hub is aligned then pump is on # one. If you don't see it when the front hub is aligned then pump is on # six. Remember the hydraulic head turns 1/2 engine speed, same as the camshaft.
